Blimey what a week! I’m in need of a 1/2 term break already! Returned to work to find WordPress had released a critical security update for their blogging engine. The last couple of releases have had an excellent in-built ftp upgrade function but some of our older installs have had to be ‘hand cranked’. A somewhat laborious task to say the least. It’s taken nearly 4 days to do all of our 52 blogs! using both solutions. “Why the heck are’nt you using WPMu” I hear the more informed members of the blogosphere cry. Well…it’s a simple answer. I have never been able to get it to install correctly. Try as I may I always fall at the second or third hurdle. I guess that’s one of the main drawbacks of not being able to host our site ourselves, that’s currently done by the SWGFL. Even with Plesk & PHP Web Admin at my disposal I just can’t get it to work. Frustrating to say the least & yet another example of the disadvantage to being a one man band. No one to bounce ideas off of (Apart from Google that is, who it must be said, is an invaluable companion a lot of the time) Some might actually envy my situation but it does have some serious limitations. Normally everything is fine but when I do run into a brick wall or turn up the proverbial blind alley occasionally I have to do something I loathe doing and that’s admit defeat. Consequently the skills gap ends up creating more work than would be preferable. Ho Hum.
Happy blogging
Stu
