BIDEFORD COLLEGE 16-19 Bursary Fund
(for eligible Sixth Form Students)
Bideford College operates a Bursary Fund for young people who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education post-16. The College has a cash limited fund which will be used wherever possible to provide support to those most in need to enable a student to continue and complete their course.
Types of Support Available
Two types of award are available and students must meet any the criteria shown on the application form (providing documentary evidence where required) in order to be eligible.
Guaranteed Award
Students eligible would fall into one of the following categories:
Young people in Care, Care Leavers, Young People in receipt of Income Support or Disabled Young People in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance.
Discretionary Awards
The College may also make other awards on a discretionary basis. Due to the limited funds available, these Awards will be targeted at those who are facing the greatest financial hardship. The following priority groups will be used to manage applications:
- Priority Group 1: Students in receipt of Free School Meals
- Priority Group 2: Students who may not be in receipt of Free School Meals but who are living within a low income family and receiving certain benefits.
Please see application form for criteria which applies. Download The 16-19 Bursary Application Form HERE
Evidence of at least one of these benefits will be required to support applications to the 16-19 Bursary Fund.
Satisfying these eligibility criteria will not guarantee funding to any student and Bideford College will consider other factors including the purpose for which funding support is requested and the budget available. Discretionary Awards must only be used to help learners meet costs related to participation in their individual course of study, such as transport, books, equipment, materials, essential trips, meals whilst attending their course.
Application Process
Application forms are available from the Finance Office during normal opening hours and will give full details of the criteria for eligibility. If you are unsure as to whether you would be eligible and would like to discuss further please ask for an appointment with Mrs Semple (Finance Manager).
Bideford College will record bursary applications and awards (including the number, value, purpose, whether awarded or not and brief justification) so that all EFA audit and reporting requirements are satisfied.
