Year 10
The GCSE course begins in year 10 with two projects. They begin the year by learning basic sewing and construction skills relating to fashion and garment manufacture. Students put these skills to use when designing and making a bodice for the autumn/winter season. They then go on to experiment with various decorative techniques, resulting in the design and making of a furnishing product.
Students produce an A3 folder of coursework to go with their bodice and furnishing practical pieces. This is in preperation for their Unit 2 GCSE coursework.
Check out this brilliant Year 10 folder.
Theory lessons in year 10 help students to learn all the information they need to know in order to take their Unit 1 exam in year 11. Students will take a Mock GCSE in year 10 which enables them to experience a practice paper to see what is expected of them when taking their GCSE. For more information on what will be covered during the GCSE check out the ‘GCSE’ page and look at the AQA Specification.
