About Textiles
Textiles Technology is on offer throughout the Key Stages at Bideford College. It is an exciting, creative subject which gives students the opportunity to use all sorts of materials and equipment.
In year 7 students learn how to use a sewing machine while designing and making their own Wall hanging organiser. They will gain skills in cutting, using pattern templates, basic sewing stitches, designing and using fabric crayons.
Year 8 develops these skills further through the designing and making of a patchwork cushion. Students will be introduced to Computerised Embroidery Machines and be given the chance to machine embroider names and logo’s onto their patchwork cushions. They also investigate colour – including the colour wheel, harmonious, complimentary and tonal colour schemes.
Soft Toy Animals are produced by students in year 9. Designing and adapting patterns is even more important during this module where students can turn our basic patterns into any animal they like!
Textiles Technology is also an option choice for GCSE and A Level studnets. For more information on these courses check out our GCSE and A Level pages.
