Sea4life
On Thursday 4th of June 2009, class 6SF and 6CC went on a trip to the Northam burrows. We walked for ages along the costal area. Firstly, we used quadrants to compare different types of soil and grass (maram grass) on the burrows. But this was only a couple of yards apart. Later on we went almost all over the burrows discovering even more types of soil and plants. The best about the whole trip though, was collecting mud from the Skern. It smelt horrible, and it didn’t look like anyone would want to get stuck in quickly. But all of us would accept picking some mud any day. The texture wasn’t the best thing we ever felt. Some people lost their shoes in the gooey mud, but we managed to get all the shoes out in the end. We’re going to use the mud for making sculptures for our art project. I don’t know what we’re going to do on Thursday (11th June) but I know it’ll be exciting.
The sea 4 life project 2009.
We all (year 6) went down to the Northam Burrows to see what wildlife we could find. We found all sorts of wildlife there like small crabs, large crabs, sea snails and lots of different types of plants.
Try to imagine
Try to imagine what it is like on the beach. Well, at the Northam Burrows there are billions of different types of rubbish that is polluting the sea and the surrounding’s areas.
Stuck in the mud
It Was Really Funny. Ryan (a boy from my class) stepped in the mud and got VERY! Stuck. He had very smelly mud all the way up his leg. It was so hilarious!!

Today we went down to Northam Burrows. We had great fun. My particular favourite part of the day was at the end, when we went to Skern at Appledore, to collect mud for a mud sculpture. It was very mucky! Dean and Ryan both lost their shoes and Douglas had to get them out. The mud smelt disgusting and a lot of people felt ill (including Me.) it also felt horrible and it was a very hard job to get all of the mud off when we had finished. Mrs. Coles collected shells while Miss.Murphys class collected mud then we swapped over. The mud was really messy and gloopy it was black and brown. And it felt really soft and squishy. And the mud smelt like dog muck. It was really messy but fun! When we where collected mud one person held the bag and the other person collected mud with there hands .When Mrs. Coles class was where waiting for Miss. Murphy’s class we collected shells we found millions of shells all different shapes and sizes. After that we went back to school ready for the end of the day. I think when everybody went home, they had a shower.

On Thursday 4th of June 09, St. Margaret’s junior school went to Northam Burrows for the Sea for Life project. We walked to the visitors centre and had fruit break. Our Bideford college student (from year
gave us some sweets and everybody else was really jealous!
After lunch, we went down to the skern and went to collect some mud. Karen Hawkins, the artist on the trip said the small plants were edible, and I ate loads! The mud was absolutely disgusting and all black under the surface, AND it really, really, really, really, really, really,
really, really, really stunk. (Did I mention it was stinky?) Ryan’s shoe got completely stuck in the mud and everyone thought he’d lost it but Doug and Steven managed to get it out… eventually.
We are going to use it to make sculptures later this month.
After this, we stuck our hands into the sand to get all the black mud off, and then had to walk all the way back to school by 3:20! Although it wasn’t that dramatic. And I now I’m really looking forward to making the sculptures with that horrible, disgusting mud…

Lovely
So….. there you have it, the first day of the Sea4Life project was a great success. As you may have read from the previous posts it seems everyone really enjoyed the team building day and are looking forward to getting stuck into the project with trips to the Beach in the near future. We hope you will regularly check back with the blog to see how things are developing over the coming months. A big thank you to everyone up at the Hallsannery Center for putting up with us, the Year 8 ‘Teachers for a day’ from Bideford College & all the staff who helped make it a great day. See you soon.
