At West Buckland our best placed team was Year 10 with convincing wins against Park and Braunton but losses against South Molton and Torrington. Trise were scored by Luke Hasted(3), Sam Shuttleworth, Sam Curtis(2) and Drew Blackwood(2). Ryan Smale was at his hard tackling best and Lewis Moore, Tom Westaway and debut boy Joe Trapnell all played really well.
Year 8 could only manage 1 win and this was against Torrington. In the matches, tries were scored by Kristian Hancock(3) and Sam Ellis and 3 conversions by Ben Crouch

Year 8 beat Holsworthy 14-12 to gain their first win in the North Devon Schools’ league. Ben Radcliffe scored both of the tries and Ben Crouch converted both. The scrum was really effective, the rucking was much improved and the attacking runs pinned Holsworthy in their own half for most of the game. Well done.

Year 7 beat Holsworthy 38-21 to break the Munro curse which has seen no rugby win in his year group for 5 and a half years. Harry Jones and George King scored all of the points but it was a much better team performance and Joe and Jamie Allaway made a big difference in the forwards.

Dani Jewell won the medal for 2nd at the county championships which were held at Torrington and will now represent Devon. Our other runners battled hard for North Devon on a very boggy demanding course and so well done to Kieran Jewell, Kallum Warren, Scott Braunton, Anela Butler, Ben Fisher-Anderson and Leanna Fay.

Year 7 played ‘A’ and ‘B’ team fixtures against Pilton. The ‘A’ team lost 10-5 with the try from George King. They crossed the line on another occasion but failed to score the try to level the match. The backs were very dangerous again with George, Michael Smith, Reece Pearn, Declan Monaghan and the wingers Luke Nichols and Rhys Curtis causing Pilton lots of problems. Captain Harry Jones stood out in the forwards. The ‘B’ team enjoyed a run out to gain experience for the tournament after half term and scored twice despite being a few players short. Year 8 lost heavily to Pilton and failed to get on the scoresheet despite the help of Mr Ayre in his debut game as a referee.

Year 7 competed very hard with Braunton but eventually lost 25-15. George King scored 2 tries and Reece Pearn 1 while Michael Smith made lots of yards and the forwards won the battle in the scrums. Year 8 came back at Braunton in the second half but lost 36-19 with tries by Alex Vizor, Ben Radcliffe and the other by Alex/Matt Fay who seemed to touch down together. Ben Crouch converted 2 and Adam North nade his debut despite losing all of his kit at school and having to borrow everything.
