Over the last few week lots of hard work has been needed to clear the ponds. Endless reeds have had to be removed to improve conditions for the wildlife. Thanks to the hard work of the college volunteers, who had to put on waders and get in water up to their waist , the ponds are looking much healthier.

The first expeditions took place over the weekend in the Clovelly area. The weather was a little too hot for walking but ideal for tick so beware!!!!

Ideal weather conditions for early practice!!!
Warm summer evenings with stunning view’s over the lakes, what more could you want from a camp site.
The new camp craft session at Tamar Lakes proved a great success with the latest bronze members. It was suggested that we extend the trip to two day next year to include more navigation practice. What do you think?????

During the holiday students from the college D of E group worked tirelessly to clear the area ready for the new season. The twelve volunteers also helped relay a culvert improving the drainage of the site. Mr Philip Marlow from the Devon Bird Watching Preservation Society was most impressed with the attitude of the group and said they were a ‘cracking bunch of young people’. Well done to all those who took part!!!
If you have not already done so you need to book the date you want to do your practice expedition. Be warned the places are given on a first come first served basis!!!

The D of E programme is a real adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. You just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.
You can do programmes at three levels, Bronze, Silver or Gold, which lead to a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you’re going for Gold).
You’ll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).
But here’s the best bit – you get to choose what you do!
Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing. And along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
